5) In which Bean and Princess Diana are in bed together

PRINCESS DIANA

…Alright, what is it?

BEAN
Hm?

PRINCESS DIANA

Usually this gets you.

BEAN

What?

PRINCESS DIANA

Tracing your fingers with my fingers.  “Dreams come true” touches.

BEAN

PRINCESS DIANA
The grapefruit in the kitchen is spoiled.

We need to throw it out.

I’m sad that you didn’t eat it.

BEAN
I’m sorry.

PRINCESS DIANA

It’s okay.

BEAN

It’s hard to eat sometimes.

PRINCESS DIANA
I know.

BEAN

PRINCESS DIANA

What are you thinking about?

BEAN
I’m plotting my next move.

PRINCESS DIANA

Phil is on it.

He's checking the communique all night.

...He hasn’t failed me yet.

BEAN

Right.

PRINCESS DIANA

Kiss me.

BEAN

PRINCESS DIANA
…My baby.

BEAN

PRINCESS DIANA
I have this memory that’s half there.

After I married you know who…

The one we don’t talk about.

BEAN
Yes.

PRINCESS DIANA

We were having breakfast.  All of us.

A rather posh event.

And there was the Queen, Her Royal Highness.

Eating her bacon and her eggs and her buttered toast and…and….

And there was me.  Little ole me.

At the end of an impossibly long table that seemed to crack time in two.

A grapefruit half on my plate; its pink, a compulsion.

I dug my finger into its meat when I thought no one was looking.

Everyone was looking.

BEAN

Stop.

PRINCESS DIANA

I want to be the first thing that you taste today.

BEAN
I think this is a mistake.

PRINCESS DIANA

BEAN

PRINCESS DIANA

BEAN

I’m so terrified for my dad, Di.

I’m so terrified about what will happen to him.

I…. I’m so terrified.

PRINCESS DIANA
I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.

I know.
